Then, when I updated to Big Sur, the sleep delay issue was back. However, at some point (I think in the last revision of Catalina), I had to switch back to HDMI and found the sleep delay issue was gone. M1 laptop people love the "instant on" of the laptop displays on the M1. With HDMI, it took 6-7 seconds to wake from sleep. In addition, I noticed that, using display port connection resulted in a much faster wake from sleep time. I purchased a USBC to display port cable and used that.
To get it to work, I had to plug and unplug or otherwise mess around. However, I had occasional issues with the monitor not responding following a reboot of the mini.

I used this monitor with my 2018 Mac mini and currently use it with my 2020 M1 mini. And given the choice, I would think HDMI would be preferred as I only plan on hooking up a single monitor.Īnyway, just wondering what people would recommend in my case. Some of the issues might have been trying to push higher resolution and/or frame rate, so in my case either might be perfectly fine. I think some had said it wouldn't awaken the monitor coming out of sleep and stuff like that. I don't mind doing either, but again I read some reports of people who had issues with this. The other option I could go with would be to buy a USB-C to DP cable and use that, albeit at a loss of one of my USB-C ports (plus having to buy a cable). But I read some people had issues with this. Obviously HDMI would be native on both, and the resolution/frame rate is well within specs. My options for connectivity are HDMI, Display Port or DVI. I have a 31.5" Acer EB1 EB321HQU 2560x1440 QHD 60Hz 4ms IPS Monitor that I plan to use with it. My question is about how I should properly go about connecting it to my monitor.
I'm getting one of the new Mac Mini M1s and while this will be my first Apple desktop, at least recent one, I have a MBP, iPhone, iPad, etc. I apologize if this is a stupid question, but I've seen conflicting comments and warnings about problems in various threads so figured I would quickly ask what is the best option.
